Brenda Carter and Gerald Phillips donated Carter-Phillips Nature Reserve to RWLT in 2009 through the Federal Ecological Gifts Program. Brenda and Gerald also donated our other property, Brenda Carter Conservation Area.

Carter-Phillips Nature Reserve consists of woodlands, open fields and wooded ravine habitat that adjoins Rideau Creek, a tributary that feeds the Rideau River. The open field provides breeding habitat for Bobolink, a threatened species. The woodlands on the northern portion of the property provide excellent habitat for amphibian species. This property is also home to the Red-shouldered Hawk, Pileated Woodpecker, Barred Owl, Winter Wren, Veery, Wood Thrush, Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush, Scarlet Tanager and other species representative of mature forest interior habitat species.
