Land Acquisition Program

The Rideau Waterway Land Trust provides landowners with an opportunity to preserve their land and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

Our staff and volunteers provide advice on preservation strategies that best meet a landowner's needs. These strategies include the option of donating or occasionally selling parcels of land to the RWLT, thereby putting the land under the Land Trust's permanent care. Another approach is to donate a conservation agreement. This allows the landowner to retain ownership and use of the land while preserving it. A conservation agreement places protective restrictions on future uses of the land to preserve its natural features.

Once the land comes under the care of the Land Trust, the land is monitored annually by trained volunteers and/or staff to ensure it is cared for and preserved in its natural state.
