Message from the President

It is my pleasure to deliver the valuable message of land preservation in our community. I have been a member of the Board of Directors of since 1999 and it is an honour and a privilege to now serve as President.

 

From our humble beginnings and through the efforts of staff and volunteers alike, we have steadily built the capacity and reputation of the Rideau Waterway Land Trust. Together, through the training and education of volunteers and a strong membership base we are determined to accelerate the pace of land preservation along the Rideau Corridor.

 

Much of our growth was under the guidance of Peter Hannah, Board President for almost eight years. During Peter's leadership we developed a new Strategic Plan, and increased our preserved properties to 13.

 

We are a founding member of the Canadian Land Trust Alliance and have adopted the Canadian Land Trust Standards and Practices as our guiding principles. We were the first land trust in Canada to complete an organizational assessment and are now working towards implementing these Standards and Practices.

 

With the recent addition of four new board members, our board is energized and moving forward to provide community leadership, action, care, and a vision for the future of our community. There are many opportunities for you to assist and do your part to further land preservation along the Rideau Corridor. As human development expands its influence over the Earth, every year more and more people escape to our precious oasis to appreciate plants and animals in their pristine habitat. You can help preserve these natural lands and habitats in the Rideau Corridor and foster a healthy future for our communities. This is our mission. I hope you will join us.
